Chelsea player ratings vs Flamengo: Cole Palmer struggles continue as substitute Nicolas Jackson sees red

Chelsea put in a woeful second-half performance as they gave up a one-goal lead to lost 3-1 to Flamengo in their second group game at the Club World Cup.

Pedro Neto opened the scoring for Chelsea as he calmly found the net, and they led at the break.

But within the space of six minutes, Flamengo went 2-1 up through Bruno Henrique and Danilo and substitute Nicolas Jackson was sent off.

The scoreline got even worse for Chelsea when Wallace Yan made it 3-1 and put pressure on the Blues to make it out of their group.

Robert Sanchez 6

Wasn’t to blame for any of Flamengo’s goals and was needed to ensure the scoreline wasn’t any worse, making a number of good saves.

Malo Gusto 4

Endured a really tricky afternoon, beaten in the air in the lead-up to Flamengo’s first goal.

Trevoh Chalobah 5

Came out of the game with a little more credit than most of Chelsea’s back-line.

Levi Colwill 4

A poor showing from the England international, almost conceding a goal that would have been his own fault and asleep for the second Flamengo goal. Out of position for the third.

Marc Cucurella 5

Did OK but wasn’t great. Thought he should have had a penalty but it wasn’t given.

Reece James 4

Another Chelsea player who did not have a good afternoon, often behind play and bypassed in midfield.

Moises Caicedo 5

Not his usual self in midfield and booked early on for shoving Jorginho after he was unhappy with the ex-Chelsea man’s reaction to being fouled.

Cole Palmer 5

Offered very, very little by way of output in attack. Has to do more.

Enzo Fernandez 6

Up for the fight in the way most of his teammates were not. Subbed off late on, and Flamengo scored 31 seconds later.

Pedro Neto 7

Given a yellow for a late challenge but was the brightest spark for Chelsea, scoring their opener confidently and running the channels (admittedly, more in the first half).

Liam Delap 6

Made a decent account of himself on his full debut for the Blues, holding off challengers and running the line well.

Nicolas Jackson (Delap, 64’) 1

Quite hard to know how to rate a player who received a straight red card four minutes after being subbed on. 0/10? 1/10? 2/10? Who cares? It was bad.

Romeo Lavia (James, 64’) 5

Came on in midfield and played deep to try to stop Flamengo at source.
