Arsenal are closing in on their first major summer signings, but it may not be the headline names the Gunners faithful have been hoping for, as Brentfor’d Christian Norgaard and Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga are expected to complete moves to north London this week. The ongoing soap opera of their striker search is set to wear on, though new reports hint Benjamin Sesko could be set to extend his stay at RB Leipzig following the arrival of new head coach Ole Werner. Viktor Gyokeres is still pushing to make the move to North London, but has also fielded interest from Man United.

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Jamie Gittens, with talks ongoing in the United States, while Joao Pedro, Mohammed Kudus and Malick Fofana are on the shortlist too. The Blues are weighing up whether to go back in for Mike Maignan and have interest in Ousmane Diomande and Murillo as they bid to boost their defence. United, meanwhile, are closing in on Bryan Mbeumo having submitted an improved bid of more than £60m, while their former midfielder Paul Pogba has reportedly agreed a return to football with AS Monaco.

Liverpool have finally announced Florian Wirtz and will soon do the same with Milos Kerkez before plotting a move for Marc Guehi and, maybe, Alexander Isak. Tottenham could also shake up the market with a shock swoop for Eberechi Eze as they look to kick of Thomas Frank’s managerial tenure with a statement acquisition. Chelsea cash injection

Chelsea have pocketed £8.8million plus their Club World Cup participation fee for reaching the competition’s knockout stages.

The Blues finished as runners up to Flamengo in Group D to set up a round-of-16 meeting with Benfica in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday.

After opening their campaign with a 2-0 win over Los Angeles FC, the Blues lost 3-1 to Flamengo last Friday. However, they made sure of their progression to the last 16 by beating Tunisian outfit ES Tunis 3-0 on Wednesday.

By reaching the knockout stages, the Blues have earned more than £8.8m in prize money, and more is on offer if they make it past Benfica and advance further in the competition.

Chelsea get Gittens boost

Chelsea may have been handed a significant boost in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.

Gittens was not in the Dortmund squad for their final Club World Cup group stage clash against Ulsan HD with head coach Niko Kovac revealing the winger was suffering from illness.

However, German publication Ruhr Nachrichten are reporting that Gittens' absence was largely down to protecting his 'imminent' move to Chelsea.

Elliott urged to leave Liverpool

Joe Cole says teams in Europe will be interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott this summer.

Elliott has already gone on record stating he will consider his future with the Premier League champions after seeing his game time decrease significantly under new head coach Arne Slot last season.

Already facing a tough battle to break into the team, Elliott’s chances of first-team football next season is likely to be further limited with Liverpool tying up a club-record £116m deal for attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

That said, the 22-year-old offered a reminder of his qualities with a stunning brace to help England U21s overcome Netherlands U21s and reach yet another European Championship final.

Speaking about Elliott’s performance on Channel 4 after the game, Cole believes the midfielder should leave Liverpool this summer, going as far as to map out a career path for the former Fulham youngster.

Man United drop Garnacho valuation

Manchester United are willing to lower their asking price for Alejandro Garnacho.

The club had been hoping to bring in £60m for the winger, who has been told to find a new club this summer.

However, The Mirror report that the public nature of Garnacho’s falling out with Ruben Amorim and the fact United’s desire to sell is obvious means that a fee of around £40m would likely be accepted.
